Lead Environment Artist
We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Environment Artist to join our team at Epic Games. As a Lead Environment Artist, you will be responsible for creating high-quality environments for our games, including Rocket League.
What You Will Do
- Collaborate with the Art Director to define, maintain, and elevate the visual quality of the worlds in Rocket League, balancing realism, legibility, and performance in all visual aspects of the game.
- Lead and collaborate with artists from various areas and external partners to create high-quality environments on a large scale.
- Develop a strong understanding of the game's direction and provide guidance on the execution of environment art.
- Review and provide feedback on the work of other artists to ensure consistency and quality.
- Represent the Art Director in meetings, discussions, and planning sessions as needed.
What We Are Looking For
- A strong understanding of environment art for games, including realistic constructions, natural landscapes, and the integration of organic and artificial elements.
- Demonstrated experience in supervising large outsourcing pipelines, including asset summaries, reviews, feedback, and quality control of multiple vendors.
- Experience working with designers to support main game loops.
- A strong desire and ability to grow, lead, and manage teams with clarity and empathy.
- Experience in launching at least one commercial game with 3D realistic environments on multiple platforms, including console and PC, ideally in live or long-term titles (experience with the Unreal Engine is a plus).
- A deep understanding of performance, optimization, and memory compensation, with a practical approach to scalability and asset reusability.
- Strong technical knowledge of art, including workflows, tools, and content integration for PBR and photogrammetry pipelines.
- Excellent understanding of art fundamentals, composition, lighting, color theory, scale, and visual appeal.
- Experience as a leader responsible for the development of environment art from start to finish, including internal teams and external partners.
- A highly collaborative mindset, low-ego leadership style, and strong instincts for what makes environments fun.
