Is Moza about to Completely Disrupt the Sim Racing Pedal game?

Currently set for retail release on March 18th, Moza’s new mBooster pedal is about to make active pedal technology so much more accessible to sim racers. The mBooster is an obvious and compelling alternative to the higher priced £2000+ Simucube Active Pedal.

Will it also make deciding between more typical “passive” pedal sets a thing of the past?

Next Generation: Active

The mBooster represents the 2nd pedal to appear in this “new generation”. Priced similarly to many high-end load cell passive sim racing pedals, it brings active force feedback technology to a more accessible price. For the money, we get haptic features that completely change how we experience brake feel in the simulator.

Software

One of the most striking aspects of the mBooster is how easy it is to make (software) setup changes in Pit House.

mBooster FFB settings

Rather than being locked into a single pedal feel, you can adjust various parameters through MOZA’s Pit House software. This means you can switch between different car types – from Rally to Formula machines – and have the pedal characteristics match accordingly.

For me personally, I’m keen to see how pedal haptics can develop beyond SIM3d’s pedal rumble kit and of course, the similar (although not as good) offering from SIMAGIC.

Receiving haptic pedal feedback that is better than the now very well-developed Arduino-based SIM3D product will definitely be a win for me.

The mBooster is designed to sit alongside the Moza CRP2 pedal set, although it can of course be used with your favourite throttle pedal.

I think the CRP2 throttle is actually very good so, whichever way you decide to integrate the mBooster with your setup I’m certain it will work well.

Obviously, I have the mBooster here, in testing. And the first results are super encouraging – although I can’t share any more information than that for obvious reasons.

Technical Specifications

The mBooster boasts impressive technical capabilities:

  • Pedal Surface: Biomimetic curved design (matching the CRP2 pedals)
  • Peak Power: 270W
  • Pressure Sensor Range: 0-200kg
  • Dual Sensor System: Load Cell + 15-bit Angle Sensor (32768 PPR)
  • Adjustable Travel: 0-25 degrees
  • Pedal Angle Adjustment: 0-15 degrees

First Impressions from the Community

GamerMuscle’s initial hands-on experience with the mBooster has been notably positive. In testing, they highlighted the pedal’s remarkable smoothness, noting that it “doesn’t feel like a pedal on a motor – it feels like an actual car pedal.”

This is crucial feedback, as one of the primary concerns with motorised pedals is whether they can deliver a natural, car-like feel.

Software Integration

The mBooster will integrate with MOZA’s Pit House software (to be released):

  • 15 built-in pedal presets
  • Adjustable minimum travel distance down to 4.3mm
  • Force limit adjustability up to 200kg
  • Real-time pedal output display
  • Customisable pressure engagement points

Setup Flexibility

One of the most practical advantages of the mBooster is its simplified setup. There’s no need for multiple haptic kits, reducing cable management to a single power supply and USB connection, if you have the CRP2 throttle.

The pedal can be used standalone or integrated with other MOZA pedals, and it’s even compatible with third-party pedals when connected directly to your PC via USB.

Looking Forward

The introduction of the mBooster at this price point could mark a significant moment in sim racing hardware development.

While Simucube pioneered the active pedal concept (and, it has since been copied by an enthusiastic Youtuber), MOZA’s entry into this space with a more accessible price point could accelerate the adoption of this technology and potentially drive further innovation in the market.

As I mentioned before there are now “active” pedals and “passive” pedals. This is a very new idea!

Final Thoughts

The MOZA mBooster Active Pedal is going to be an exciting and very welcome sim racing pedal. It brings direct drive haptic technology to a broader audience thanks to the far lower RRP compared to Simucube. While it’s still a premium product at £799, it significantly lowers the barrier to entry for active pedal technology – and I’m here for it!

Check back for the review, currently scheduled for February 25th.
