Dirt Rally 2 Wheel Settings: Fanatec, Moza, Simucube & More

Dirt Rally 2.0 runs Codemasters’ Dirt/EGO engine – older than EA WRC’s Unreal Engine but more refined. The FFB priorities are similar: Self-Aligning Torque 115-150% depending on base, Suspension 105-130%, Tyre Friction high (70-100%), Wheel Friction low except for the older gear Logitechs. Centre Spring stays OFF on direct drive and ON at 15-20% for G29/G920. Soft Lock ON across the board. One Fanatec/Simucube quirk: this is an older title, so newer wheelbases need adding to the game’s device_defines.xml for native telemetry.

How Dirt Rally 2.0 force feedback works

Dirt Rally 2 ships with nine in-game FFB sliders: master Vibration & FFB Strength, Self-Aligning Torque, Wheel Friction, Tyre Friction, Suspension, Collision, Soft Lock, Centre Spring and Spring Saturation. The EGO engine outputs telemetry at 333Hz – quite raw on direct drive bases, which is why Recon Filter / Interpolation matters more here than in iRacing or ACC.

Three calls dominate the consensus. Self-Aligning Torque at 115-150% brings the chassis weight back; defaults run too light. Tyre Friction 70-100% restores gravel and snow surface feel. Soft Lock ON matches the steering rotation to each car automatically (rally cars use different lock from circuit). Centre Spring stays OFF on any DD base (you’ll get robotic rattle) and ON at 15-20% for the older Logitechs to bridge gear deadzone.

Modern wheelbase note: DR2 is from 2019, so newer bases (Moza, Simagic, Simucube SC2, modern Fanatec firmware) need adding to device_defines.xml in your game install folder to get proper native telemetry. The OverTake.gg DR2 community thread maintains current entries.

For the wider picture see the direct drive wheel settings hub. The newer rally companion is EA WRC wheel settings.

Fanatec settings for Dirt Rally 2

Fanatec on DR2: INT 3 is the key call (smooths the 333Hz EGO signal), FFS Peak. Add NIN 5 for a touch of physical mass. NDP 15 prevents straight-line oscillation.

Moza settings for Dirt Rally 2

Moza on DR2: Natural Inertia at 150% gives the chassis the right weight (Moza’s algorithm favours high inertia for older EGO-engine titles), Wheel Damper 15-20 prevents oscillation, Road Sensitivity 10 for full kerb detail.

Simagic settings for Dirt Rally 2

Simagic on DR2 needs Smoothness at 4 (highest yet across our matrix pages) to silence the EGO engine’s high-frequency noise. The Wheel Return Speed at 50 lets the rally direction changes feel natural. Wheel Friction stays minimal in-game because SimPro Manager handles internal damping well.

Simucube settings for Dirt Rally 2

Simucube on DR2: Reconstruction Filter at 4 or 5 (highest in our matrix – DR2’s raw telemetry needs heavy interpolation). Inertia at 10 adds chassis weight. Direct Input Damper/Friction at 100% lets the in-game sliders work properly.

Logitech settings for Dirt Rally 2

Logitech splits cleanly on DR2. The gear G29/G920/G923 need Centre Spring ON at 15-20% (to bridge the gear deadzone) PLUS Wheel Friction at 35% and Tyre Friction maxed at 100% – the inverse of what DD users do. The DD G PRO and RS50 follow standard DD rules.

Thrustmaster settings for Dirt Rally 2

T300 in DR2: same thermal-fade trap. T818 on DR2 wants Damper at 0% in the TM Control Panel (Thrustmaster’s official recommendation for DR2 specifically – the in-game damping handles it, software damper makes the T818 feel sluggish).

Common mistakes in Dirt Rally 2 wheel settings

  • Not adding your modern wheelbase to device_defines.xml. Without the entry, DR2 falls back to a generic FFB profile that strips out telemetry. OverTake.gg keeps current entries.
  • SAT at default 100%. Defaults are too light. 115-150% per base type.
  • Centre Spring ON on a direct drive. Robotic centre rattle. OFF for DD. ON at 15-20% only for G29/G920/G923 to bridge gear slack.
  • Wheel Friction high on a DD. Muddy and sluggish. Keep at 0-10% for DD bases.
  • Soft Lock OFF. The rally cars use different steering rotation. Soft Lock ON auto-matches.
  • T818 Damper at 100% in TM Panel. Thrustmaster’s own DR2 guidance says 0% software Damper on T818 – the game handles it.
  • T300 at 100% Master Gain. Thermal fade on long stages. 75% and force fan on.

If you’re on a modern DD base and DR2 falls back to a generic FFB profile, you need your wheelbase in device_defines.xml. The OverTake.gg DR2 thread keeps the current entries – drop yours in, restart the game, and the proper telemetry kicks in. The DD wheel settings hub is the parent, the newer rally companion is EA WRC wheel settings.
