rFactor 2’s FFB is steering-rack telemetry, raw and uncompromising. The two universal calls: set “Steering torque capability” in Controller.JSON to your base’s exact peak Nm so rF2 scales forces accurately, and enable “Range Set by Vehicle” so the game soft-locks rotation per car. Then run base software at 100% torque and scale via the in-game Strength (Car Specific FFB Multiplier). Bind a button to Car Specific FFB Mult and adjust per car to keep the bar below clip.

How rFactor 2 force feedback works
rFactor 2 derives FFB directly from the steering rack on the isiMotor 2.5 engine. Three settings matter: Strength (master + per-car FFB Multiplier), Minimum Torque (the rF2 equivalent of Min Force) and Smoothing. There’s also Steering torque capability in UserData/player/Controller.JSON – critical for direct drive: set it to your base’s exact peak Nm so rF2 scales physics output correctly.
Two universal calls. Enable Range Set by Vehicle in the rF2 calibration menu and set your wheelbase software rotation to maximum (900-1080°). The game will then soft-lock per car based on the real-world rotation. Second: keep in-game global FFB Strength at 100% (or -100% if your wheel pulls the wrong way) and adjust the Car Specific FFB Multiplier per car. Bind two buttons to “Car FFB Mult + / -” and use the in-game telemetry app to dial each car below clip.
For the wider FFB picture see the direct drive wheel settings hub. rF2’s spiritual successor is Le Mans Ultimate – see our LMU wheel settings page.

Common mistakes in rFactor 2 wheel settings
- Not setting Steering torque capability in Controller.JSON. Without matching this exactly to your base’s peak Nm, rF2 scales forces incorrectly and you get either clipping or lifeless feedback.
- Not enabling Range Set by Vehicle. The wheel pulls past the steering lock on hairpins. Tick it in the calibration menu.
- Never binding the Car FFB Multiplier buttons. The master is global; per-car is where you stop clipping. Map two buttons and adjust live.
- Min Torque above 0 on a direct drive (DD1, DD2, SC2 Pro/Ultimate). Robotic centre rattle. 0 for higher-torque DDs, 0.5-1.5% only on the smaller bases.
- Fanatec “damper bug”. If FFB fades over time, turn NDP, SPR and DPR all to OFF in the Tuning Menu.
- T300 at 100% Overall. Thermal fade in 15 minutes. Cap at 75%, force fan on.
- T818 Damper at 100% in TM Panel. 0% for rF2 – the in-game smoothing handles it.
The two settings most people miss in rF2: Steering torque capability in Controller.JSON matching your base’s exact Nm, and Range Set by Vehicle ticked in the calibration menu. Get those right and Strength + Min Torque + Smoothing tune cleanly. The DD wheel settings hub is the parent. The spiritual successor on Studio 397’s newer engine is LMU wheel settings.
